We are proud to play a leading role in Health Care for All New York Campaign (HCFANY), a statewide coalition dedicated to winning affordable, comprehensive, and high-quality health care for all residents of New York by 2010.
People’s Public Hearing
On May 28, 2008 HCFANY held a “People’s Public Hearing for Health Care for All New York” in Albany. New York State Health Commissioner Richard Daines, M.D. along with members of the Assembly and State Senate heard testimony from health care consumers from across the state about their personal experiences with a broken health care system and their recommendations to deliver quality, affordable health care for all New York (view health care consumers’ testimony at the “People’s Hearing”).
Commissioner Daines kicked off the hearing by stating his commitment to developing solutions to the state's health care crisis. He announced the release that day of the first interim report to be issued by the Governor's Partnership for Coverage Task Force, an interagency initiative to explore ideas for universal health care reform. Troy Oeschner, the State Insurance Department's Deputy Secretary for Health, attended the hearing the whole day. Joseph Baker, Governor Paterson's Deputy Secretary for Health and Human Services, also came by to listen, and announced that the Governor was hoping to put forth some proposals sometime in the coming fall
